A brand-new indoor skateboarding facility has opened in Birmingham city centre, delivered by Birmingham Skate Spaces and supported by Skateboard GB x Subway, which aims to provide and upgrade skateable spaces across the UK.

Birmingham now has an indoor skate space in its city centre at The Drop Inn, located in Digbeth, featuring a large mini ramp alongside a range of creative skateable elements. The project was brought to life by Birmingham Skate Spaces, the community‑interest group behind Bournbrook DIY – the UK’s first DIY skatepark to be officially recognised as a skatepark.

With winter bringing wet and windy weather, the arrival of an indoor venue is a huge boost for Britain’s second‑largest city. Many young people picked up a skateboard over Christmas, and The Drop Inn offers a safe, welcoming place for them to continue learning and building confidence. Free lessons, delivered by qualified coaches, are available for all ages and abilities are also available.

One of the most distinctive features of The Drop Inn is its accessibility. Entry operates on a low donation basis, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to participation.

The indoor skatepark celebrated its grand opening last weekend with competitions, jams, giveaways and music. More than 400 people visited throughout the day, highlighting the strong demand for an indoor skate space in the city.

This marks the third project supported through the Skateboard GB x Subway partnership, following the creation of new skateable obstacles in Newham last summer and a new set of competition‑standard features at The House Skatepark in Sheffield in November.

Berni Good, Director of Birmingham Skate Spaces CIC said:
“This project is about making skateboarding more accessible in Birmingham keeping costs low, removing barriers, and providing a space that reflects how people actually skate. Hosting the space at The Drop Inn allows us to support the community through the winter while we continue working towards more sustainable, long term solutions. We are thrilled about the support form Skateboard GB x Subway”.

Kirstey Elston, Senior Marketing Director at Subway EMEA said:
“As part of our Fresh Moves programme, Subway is committed to creating spaces that promote physical activity and support up-and-coming sports, and The Drop Inn does exactly that. We’re thrilled to support Birmingham’s first ever indoor skate space and help make skateboarding more accessible for all.”

The Drop Inn is open this weekend between 2 – 6pm (entry £3 donation). Further opening opportunities and skateboard lessons information via the Birmingham Skate Spaces social media channels.
